A: Ember Electrical has been going for over five years now. We started off doing purely electrics, and now we do electrical and building work for local authorities. It’s progressed from being quite small to a [much bigger team].
A: Initially, I was using a ‘one-man band’ for my accounts. Paul was a friend of mine. He said he only wanted to be my accountant if I wanted to grow the business. He interviewed me really! To be fair to him, he has pushed us along the way to try and get bigger.

A: Paul’s innovative and he understands my business. We have a biannual meeting and he gives me pointers and ideas, including ways to improve my debtors list. He’s always available if you need any advice. Just recently, we’ve been talking to him about funding.
Xero [the online system] definitely saves me time. Stephanie gave me training – half an hour…an hour – and from there, it’s really simple. You can see your debtors list at the touch of a button. I use it for invoicing, sending statements and credit notes and Steph does everything from there. It also has a live feed to the bank, which means you can look at your bank account on it. Also, because it’s web-based, you can use an app on your phone.
A: They’ve given me a lot of confidence to enhance and grow the business. It’s reassurance and peace of mind too. It’s also like having a sounding board – if you need any advice, you can run it past Paul and he’ll give you his honest opinion.
