Tax Credits don't apply to me....

HM Revenue & Customs estimate that £40 billion of legitimate Tax Credit entitlement remains unclaimed and that nine out of ten families with children qualify for Tax Credits.

During the current tax year (which started on 6 April 2010) if your household income is below approximately £58,000, you may be entitled to Child Tax Credits.  For a family with two children, this can mean as much as an extra £9,700 tax free cash for the year.  For families with more children, the figure can be much higher (e.g. up to £14,300 a year for a family with four children).

When we undertake tax planning for you, it can have a significant impact on the level of Tax Credits available to you.  With your help, we can ensure that your existing Tax Credits claim does not decrease in value and in some circumstances, increases or results in a claim that was previously not possible.

You need to act quickly - claims for Tax Credits are very time sensitive, so by claiming early (i.e. before you think you might be able to get any tax credits) any future award can be maximised. Claiming late, on the other hand, will usually greatly reduce the amount you eventually get.

The June 2010 Budget proposed that the Tax Credits system would become less generous in 2011 and 2012 and that it would also incorporate additional traps for the unwary.  So, acting quickly and taking good advice have never been more important.
