Networking – a source of new business?

In order to survive today’s tough economic conditions; many organisations need to be proactive by participating in at least one marketing function, such as mail-shots or telemarketing. However, few companies have considered the power of networking and its usage in the marketing strategy.

Of course we all network, whether formally at exhibitions or informally over a lunch, yet many professionals use this tool seriously in order to acquire new business. By participating in regular networking, be it for your personal profile or your company, you are able to grow a ‘bank of contacts’ which can then be used for the future of your business. Of course, networking may not be fruitful in the first instance – you need to work at it – this is why companies should combine approaches on how they are going to use this tool, into their long-term marketing strategy.

Recently, Meades & Company attended the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce annual St George’s Day Lunch, where over 350 guests met at Sopwell House Hotel with special guest Phil Tufnell. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for Meades & Company to network with other local businesses and to meet new prospects. The St Alban’s Chamber is just one example of a networking group who run regular events for its members with the objective introducing potential clients and suppliers to one another.

Alternatively, with the ever growing online social media networks it can mean that you can mingle with potential prospects from any location. Although, arguably these platforms aren’t as personal as the offline approach, yet they can still be as effective in hot discussions, exchanging ideas and of course gaining new contacts. If you would like to participate in any of the Meades & Company online networking then please connect to our social media links on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
